Winter Camping

wintersceneThis winter, probably after Christmas, I intend to get some winter wilderness camping experience in. I am contemplating snowshoeing into my Dad’s land in Bonshaw for my first sojourn, set up camp near the cabin and see if our gear is up to the task. This way I have a safe recourse if things go badly.

As for our gear, I want to try using the Spitfire Duo tent and make a custom fitted extra exterior tarp fly for more insulation as well as banking the sides a bit. I have plans to make our own fleece sleeping bag liners and perhaps even custom made overbags only with our own cool rated bags.

I think this will give us the chance to test whether our gear is suitable or if we should look at getting new stuff before trying something like cold weather camping in the Adirondacks (right Pat?)!
