Food and Permaculture, Permaculture

Food and Permaculture, Permaculture

A little technical in spots, but a good argument for permaculture farming and how it could save the world.

Camping Weekend at Cymbria

Camping Weekend at Cymbia

So, here is the actual camping update. It was for the most part a cold dreary, wet weekend. But that didn’t stop us from having a good time, oh no.

Friday afternoon Dan arrived early at the campsite before the rest of us to set up the tents and pay for the sites and what not. He had taken my tent the night before so it could be set up before I arrived and save me some time better spent drinking beer and fire poking Friday night. Unfortunately I forgot that the last time I took down the tent I didn’t put the tent poles in the bag with the tent and Dan couldn’t set up my tent with the poles sitting in my room.

So I arrived with Haley after work and Dan walked down to the gates to meet me. Almost immediately after I got there Linda and Lisa arrived as well and we all headed up and set up camp. The rain held off that night and we did little but sit around the fire and enjoy some beer that night.

The next day I awoke very early, 5:50am, to let Haley out and decided to remain up and out for the day to give Lisa a chance to sleep without the Haley monster attacking her head all morning. After a few hours poking about it started to rain and it was decidely time to start a fire. It was around 9 when everyone else got up and it starting raining a little harder. It was agreed to set up a tarp between two trees and make a bit of a lean-to shelter near the fire. The shelter was ket as it rained on and off for the next two days.

That afternoon Matt and Natalie and little Olivia stopped by during one of the brief respites from the rain and had a visit. Olivia and Haley were a little leary of each other at first but they got along soon enough afterwards. Just after they left Jason arrived, on his bike, from Charlottetown. After settling in and drying his socks and feet over the fire we had some beers and again sat around the fire! Laine called a little later and I went to pick her up. We got back in tome to finish up the hamburger helper that Linda and Lisa cooked and settled in for the night.

The next day, Sunday, was rainy for the most part, Lisa left in the afternoon, her Dad picking her up and Jason left by bike but left his pack and tent behind for us to drop off Monday. During a brief respite in the rain I went for a walk around the campsite and took most of the pics on the photo page and explored the nature trail with Laine and Haley. Haley also decided that day it would be absolutely awesome to run around in as much mud and puddles as possible like a maniac. Thankfully her fur seems to shed dirt as soon as it dries out so she wasn’t tooo much of a grubmonger by bed time. That night we cooked almost all the rest of our food up over the campfire and had an awesome feast. Pork chops, sausages, corn on the cob and packets of potatoes!

Monday morning dawned and it was actually sunny! It was kinda of a tease that the day we left turned out to be nice but it was a big relief to pack up in dry weather! It was a great weekend all in all in spite of the weather and Trent and Cindy treated us like family again this year and have much of my admiration, respect and loyalty!
