What I don’t understand is the two to three dozen people I saw at 12:50pm today gather outside of the PEI BSC building on Fitzroy and Queen protesting Bush’s presence in Canada with signs like ‘Go Home Bush’ and chants, who then proceeded to walk down Fitzroy towards University blocking traffic.
Do these people think they are accomplishing anything other than pissing off motorists who probably have very little to do with Bush being here? Why would they protest here when Bush is in Ottawa today? It’d make more sense to do it tomorrow when he’s in Halifax and the national media is at least in the maritimes and may consider soming to l’il old PEI to do a fluff story on our small band of sympathy protestors. It’s make the most sense to abandon protesting here at all and go to Halifax where your voice will be added to many others and at least heard by the national median AND Bush.
Like I said, I applaud those who stand up for what they believe and let the rest of their fellow citizens know, it takes courage and conviction to do so, but why do it when no one is watching aside from us fellow Islanders who agree with you anyway (kinda of a preaching to the choir thing) and inconveniencing people who most likely support your cause?
I intend to post my thoughts on Bush on my website tonight, in time for his visit to our neighbors south of the Straight, and if my opinions are heard by others around the continent as they focus on our region while he’s here, I’ll consider my rights to free speech well used.
